De Overkant
The Other Side
“Where your bike can just remain standing along the road unlocked and sometimes the taste of the city can still seduce me, but my thoughts tell me that I should stay here. Because far away from everything, there is everybody close to me."
And it is true what they said, it’s quiet here on De Overkant, (the other side.)”
"Waar je fiets gewoon nog open
Langs de weg kan blijven staan
En af en toe dan kan de smaak van de stad me nog verleiden
Maar vertellen mijn gedachte, dat ik hier had moeten blijven
Ver weg van alles, daar is iedereen dichtbij me
En het is waar wat ze zeiden
Het is stil hier aan de overkant"
De Overkant was written during the COVID-19 pandemic, enforcing the ideal of small-town living. The chorus talks about their small town, saying:
With a population of just under 17 million, did you know the Netherlands has more bikes than people?
